Online Communities

Hello Gang

Well, hopefully you have noticed this week, that online communities are everywhere. The internet and social media have made the world a much smaller place. As consumers and citizens we "have a voice" and we are no longer just passive observers. Oh yeah, just one little thing, as more people "use their voice" it can get rather loud!

So, what communities did you observe? Was it a positive experience or did you feel over whelmed by the amount of input? For those of you struggling to "find a home", hang in there. I'm sure that as you delve into the world of social media you will naturally come across interesting forums that you never realized where there. For now, if you haven't found something try checking out eHow.com, you should surely be able to find an article of interest. Once you find an article view comments and join the conversation! Now days, just about every article provides you the opportunity to respond. So if you like to follow the news, perhaps Yahoo News or MSN is a better option for you.

The opportunity to communicate is all around us. Just be sure to follow good netiquette. You should be respectful at all times, even to those who are not. Be sure that you are showcasing your insights and that your input is well written, easy to read and clear. For more on netiquette check out the short article http://www.ehow.com/about_4609432_why-do-people-use-netiquette.html

Looking forward to hearing your feedback!
Dr. G

As I'm interested in entertainment, I joined the Gossip Girl and Beyonce virtual communities. I asked when the next season of Gossip Girl will be on TV, and they respond me that it will be shown on October 9th, and I said thanks to them. But in the Beyonce community, I asked where will Beyonce hold a concert, they didi not reoly me. So, that's a good experience, and I will talk more in the virtual communities in the future.

My blog has the name "Explore the United States outside the tourist guide". So it was obvious to search for an online community about traveling in the States. I found the community "Thorn Tree", which is part of the website "Lonely Planet".
Because I´m planning to visit a theme park in South California I asked the question:
"Your Opinion: Six Flags or Disneyland?"
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?newPost=true&messageID=20381551&#20381551

I received the first respond really fast. Up to now I have received 8 responds (I posted my question last night), all of them very friendly and helpful. I didn´t know that online communities are so common. I think I will use such communities more in future.

Hi everybody!

I join the community "styledOn" because i'm interrested in the fashion world. I post a picture of a woman with a feathers'skirt and I asked to the community where I could find it. Somebody answered me that I could find it on "topshop" and I said thanks to her and that I will take a look on it. I'm impressed that someone takes time to answer me. I think communities are a good way to get answers to our questions very quickly and easily. It was a good and a constructive experience. My second community was on a french fashion blog and someone answered me and agrees with my post.

I joined the American Marketing Association but had trouble getting into the site. There is a lot of great information but you must pay a membership fee. They do have an option to join for free as a web viewer only. You can comment on conversations but you cannot join groups. So I had quite a bit of back-and-forth conversation with their online social media coordinator. She was very helpful but I was never able to comment within one of their helpful groups.

The other site that signed up for was ChrisBrogan.com. I commented on the article Why we Pay to Learn. The direct feedback response was interesting but I did not like it at first. But when other people responded as well to his question then I felt a bit more comfortable.

After that experience I think that I would be more comfortable with a formal group social media setting

Hi~everyone!I'm a super sports fan ,and especially like NBA.i joined a online bbs called "Clutchfans" which is the fan community of Houston Rockets,a basketball team of NBA. Tonight, Rockets just finished their opening game of this season. I posted a airtcle about "who do you want to see most at opening night?", and soon their are some followers and comments about this question. I post some thing before, but it didn't attract many people's attention. Why this question is popular. The question is almost the whole team were rebuilded in this summer, and all the teamates are new face for fans. Moreover, the game just finished and Rockets beat Oklahoma City Thunder, which team won the western conference champions last season.
